Seth doesn’t believe in moxabustion, and neither do I–except when it works. I’ve been seeing an acupuncturist regularly for tendinitis in my hands. Between anti-inflammatories, good ergonomics, and these kooky pinpricks it’s mostly under control. and I’m happy to be enjoying a placebo effect if it keeps me off disability. But “moxa-ing” is the craziest part. the acupuncturist gave me this “cigar” of course moxa leaves. Whenever my hands are particularly inflamed, I’m supposed to ignite a tip to a smoulder and wave it over the painful area for about a minute. And it helps dramatically–the pain disappears immediately. Crazy. Maybe this is why so many superstitions stick around: they seem to work.Seth’s Blog: Moxabustion
