Hah – I knew it! Way back in college I noticed that if my papers were submitted in 10 point single spaced Times Roman with 1 1/2 inch margins all around my papers did better than when I followed directions (12 point, double spaced, 1 inch margins). My theory was that professors couldn’t judge how long my papers were, and that essay length was a contributing factor to grades.
